Joel Samuels Leads CLE on Top Trademark Cases of 2018
St. Louis trademark attorney Joel Samuels will present his annual Trademark Year in Review CLE on Wednesday, January 23, at the Bar Association of Metropolitan Saint Louis. His presentation will focus on the most notable trademark cases decided in the 8th Circuit in 2018. He will also cover many of the year’s most significant decisions from the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, the U.S. Supreme Court and the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Samuels will discuss trademark cases involving karaoke lyrics, a battle between gas-station logos, a turf battle about turf fertilizers, and much more. His discussion will also provide a refresher on the state of 8th Circuit law as it applies to trademark standing, abandonment, secondary meaning and the standards for the various forms of relief provided by the Lanham Act. Finally, Samuels will provide guidance regarding trademark rights, such as a reminder that trademark rights do not bestow censorship rights.
The CLE will begin at 11:30 with lunch and registration. The program will begin at 12:00 and go until 1:30. All who are interested in learning more about the past year’s most newsworthy trademark developments are encouraged to register for the event.
