Harness IP Principal Named to the Michigan Lawyers Weekly “Leaders in the Law” List
Harness IP is pleased to announce that veteran intellectual property attorney Greg Schivley has been named to the Michigan Lawyers Weekly “Leaders in the Law” class of 2020. The class will be honored at the publication’s annual luncheon and awards celebration on Thursday, April 9, 2020.
As a veteran attorney with a career in intellectual property law that spans more than 40 years, Schivley serves an international clientele who seek his expertise in patents, trademarks, strategic counseling, licensing, due diligence investigations, and litigation. He is an alumnus of the in-house legal departments at General Motors, UNISYS and Xerox, and offers tangible experience and sound perspective on what corporate counsel need to achieve success.
Over the years, Schivley has served Harness IP in a number of roles, including being a member of the Administrative and Recruiting Committees. The Firm had 17 partners and six associates when Schivley joined in 1984. Today, the firm has 100 attorneys and patent agents, and roughly a third of the firm’s partners were hired by Schivley.
Schivley earned his J.D., cum laude, from Wayne State University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, with honors, from Ohio State University. Outside of the firm, he is and has been an active member in several legal organizations. Notably, Schivley is the past president of the Michigan Intellectual Property Law Association and currently holds the title of “Master-Emeritus” for the Michigan Intellectual Property Inn of Court. He is also a proud member of the Oakland Country Bar Association (OCBA) and helped organize several golf outings over the years to build camaraderie among local attorneys.
The Leaders in the Law awards program recognizes attorneys and professionals in law-related fields who have a significant accomplishment or achievement. These include outstanding contributions to the practice of law in Michigan, significant achievements through the practice of law, leadership in improving the justice system and important contributions to Michigan’s legal community and/or the community at large.
