Harness IP Welcomes “The Dean of U.S. Patent Law” to its Metro Washington, D.C. Office
Harness IP is pleased to announce a longtime patent attorney and educator known as “The Dean of U.S. Patent Law” has joined the firm’s Metro Washington, D.C. office.
Attorney John M. White brings more than 35 years of patent law experience to his new position as Special Counsel with Harness IP. White is estimated to have taught more than 70% of active patent attorneys and agents in the U.S. through his popular Patent Bar review course at Practising Law Institute (PLI), earning him the title “The Dean of U.S. Patent Law.”
“It’s an honor to welcome John to the firm,” says Ray Millien, CEO of Harness IP. “John is a longtime friend and a pillar in the patent law community. The value he adds to our team and to our clients cannot be overstated.”
White began his career as a Patent Examiner at the USPTO. He made his way up to become a Speechwriter and Special Assistant to the Commissioner of Patents before entering private practice and co-founding his own firm, Longacre & White, in 1988. That firm soon merged with another to become Berenato & White. Throughout his career, White has personally examined, written, or prosecuted thousands of U.S. patents. He has also served as an expert witness in numerous patent litigation proceedings.
In addition to his patent practice, White is the President & CEO of the PCT Learning Center, where he creates and designs PCT/Hague/Madrid/EPO courses for U.S. IP support and professional staff.
White’s practice at Harness IP will focus on utility and design patent filing and prosecution strategies across the globe, serving as an expert witness, and counseling clients on matters involving IP transactions. He will continue to teach the Patent Bar review course through PLI and provide support for PCT Learning Center, as well.
White holds a J.D. from The George Washington University and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech.
