COVID-19 IP Update — News as of April 22, 2020
The following extension dates have been published by leading patent offices around the globe, although applicants should consider submitting as many materials as possible (and as is appropriate) ahead of extension dates to potentially avoid bottlenecks and further delays on the dates these offices reopen.
Australia
Extension of non-statutory deadlines are available by request.
Brazil
Deadlines expiring between March 16 – April 29 are automatically extended until April 30.
Canada
Deadlines between March 16 and April 30 are automatically extended until May 1.
Chile
Extensions are available by request.
China
Extension by request; applicant must be affected by coronavirus and extension must be requested within 2 months after the end of the emergency.
EUIPO
Most deadlines are automatically extended until May 1.
India
Deadlines are automatically extended until May 4.
Jordan
Deadlines expiring between March 18 and April 29 are automatically extended to April 30.
Israel
Extensions are available by request with evidence.
JPO
Extensions are available by request.
KIPO
Deadlines are automatically extended to April 30, except for statutory time periods and periods for possible disputes between parties.
Mexico
Deadlines expiring between March 24 and April 19 are automatically extended until April 20.
Singapore
Deadlines expiring between April 7 and May 7 are automatically extended until May 8.
South Africa
Deadlines before May 1 are automatically extended to May 4.
Thailand
Extensions are available by request, but require proof that COVID-19 has directly affected the ability to handle IP prosecution.
