About Harness IP
Harness IP’s team of trademark and patent attorneys serve clients in all areas of intellectual property law, including patents, trademarks, IP litigation, PTAB Proceedings, trade secrets, due diligence investigations, and global IP management.
In response to Detroit’s growing automotive industry, J. King Harness established Harness IP in 1921. Serving as the head of the patent department for the Ford Motor Company, Harness understood the value of expertise in intellectual property and set out to open a firm that would focus exclusively on intellectual property law.
Today, we are one of the top IP law firms in the U.S. measured by both the number of attorneys and by objective rankings of results. Our trademark and patent attorneys represent world leaders in business and technology, and our collective experience spans practically every practice area and niche specialty within intellectual property law.
Clients rely on Harness IP because our attorneys know how to turn the complexities of intellectual property law into straightforward solutions. Our patent attorneys obtain more than 3,700 U.S. patents each year, on average, while our trademark attorneys propel Harness IP to rank among the top IP law firms for registering U.S. trademarks year after year.
As a patent litigation firm, our senior litigators each have more than 25 years of experience and follow a time-tested approach that leverages professional skills, technology, and processes to maximize the likelihood that clients get the win they seek. Our success in IP litigation spans patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret, and antitrust disputes. We defend clients in courts throughout the country and take the fight to courts that are strategically important to our clients’ business stakes, including the PTAB, TTAB, Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
The patent and trademark attorneys of Harness IP are committed to fostering and maintaining a culture that celebrates diversity and inclusion. We are particularly proud of our recent success in recruiting and retaining a diverse team of associates and our increasing diversity among partners. Our CEO emphasizes diversity and inclusion and is generating excitement within the firm to expand upon our recent successes.
As we move into our second century as an IP law firm, we remain committed to providing young engineering and law students from diverse backgrounds with more opportunities to explore careers in intellectual property law and to achieve success in the field. We continue to increase diversity of all forms among our attorneys and staff and to draw strength from an appreciation of different perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds.
